Moab Utah, and the surround areas are a cornucopia
of geological wonders. Rock formations and layers of color, along with amazing skies of clouds and stars, all combine to create one of the most unique places in our country. Not surprising there are two National Parks and a State Park within a few miles of each other.
How many places can you photograph an amazing geological formation through another amazing geological formation.
And the entire time, weather changes and comes and goes, adding to the whole experience.
Iconic sunrises and roaring sunsets are an almost daily occurrence.
The Stars jump out at you, starting at twilight and extending through the night
Sunset is just the beginning of another opportunity to see and experience the grandeur of the area. There are so many stars visible and he Milky Way almost pops out in the night.
The Milky Way dominates the summer night sky!
All the Arches!
Arches National Park has the densest concentration of natural stone arches in the world. There are over 2,000 documented arches in the park.
Next came just the right amount of rain (8-10” a year) so that erosion can take place but not too quickly. They water would drain through the porous Entrada and get trapped by the denser Carmel. Winter freezes would then crack and separate the layers and eventually form pockets and holes and then arches in the sandstone. Also, this area have very little seismic activity, so the arched do not have to endure the stress of an earthquake.
The area is covered with amazing Canyons carved out by rivers and other erosion.
Be prepared for early May workshop, Dusk to Dawn, to find the best shots in this wonderful area.
